Martin Øbakke, native of Denmark started his career studying art in Florence and worked for many years as an artist & illustrator in Nashville, Tennessee.
A self taught sculptor working with copper, clay & silk Martin is inspired by nature, imagination and the points in between. The thin, gossamer strands that connect everything.
His work answers cravings for mythological archetypes that speak to our subconscious. These resonate with the unseen & unknown within us. Informing age-old collective ideals of how to be and what to hold on to in a world caught in confusion. They have power & identity, weaving stories around us that support our beliefs related to creation, transformation and resurrection.
Now relocated to Europe he is creating this completely new body of work: A Natural Fairy Tale, which seeks to bring visions of the mythological world to life.
Butterflies, winged creatures, flora, fauna & crystals are set in a box frame to conserve & show each specimen sculpture as a unique piece of art.
